Modifying Size and Resolution

Page 44 highlights

WiseImage- User's Guide Adding margins The resizing operation can also add blank margins to the image. To add margins to an image 1. Select an image and start the resizing operation. 2. Clear the Fixed Size checkbox and using the four boxes or buttons with arrows of the Alignment/Margins box; specify the image margins in the appropriate directions. Click OK. Modifying Size and Resolution Scaling is used to resize an image proportionally. In addition, this procedure can modify an image resolution. When scaling, an image's physical size in dots may either be changed or remain the same. In the second case an image is resized in the relative units (millimeters or inches), which is implemented by modifying the resolution. Image scaling can be performed in the following three ways: by means of image resolution modification, image scale modification without resolution modification, and by both scale and resolution modification. If the image size is enlarged, then WiseImage calculates the color values of all pixels added, approximating the color values of the existing pixels. Resolution increase does not usually create a better quality image. If the resolution is reduced, then WiseImage removes pixels from the image to achieve the required resolution. Þ If you modify the resolution, then keep in mind that an image file size is proportional to its squared resolution. That is why if you increase the resolution without proportionally increasing an image size, and also if you increase an image size without proportionally reducing the resolution, it causes an increase in the image file size. For example, an image file with a resolution of 200 pixels per inch is four times larger than an image file size with the same size and resolution of 100 pixels per inch. The operation can only be applied to a single image at a time. So, if there is only one available image in the drawing (visible, allocated on an unlocked layer),then it is automatically selected. Otherwise you should select an image. If you did not select an image prior to invoking the command, or selected several images, then a dialog box appears, containing a list of all inserted or selected images, and you should select the one to be processed. * For more detailed information on the selection procedure see " Selecting a Single Image" on page 19. To scale an image 1. Select an image on the screen and start the operation in one of the following ways: Click the Resample button on the Raster Image toolbar. Choose Resample in the rImage menu. 44

Modifying Size and Resolution
Scaling is used to resize an image proportionally. In addition, this procedure can
modify an image resolution. When scaling, an image’s physical size in dots may
either be changed or remain the same. In the second case an image is resized in
the relative units (millimeters or inches), which is implemented by modifying the
resolution.
Image scaling can be performed in the following three ways: by means of image
resolution modification, image scale modification without resolution modification,
and by both scale and resolution modification. If the image size is enlarged, then
WiseImage calculates the color values of all pixels added, approximating the color
values of the existing pixels. Resolution increase does not usually create a better
quality image. If the resolution is reduced, then WiseImage removes pixels from the
image to achieve the required resolution.
°
If you modify the resolution, then keep in mind that an image file size is
proportional to its squared resolution. That is why if you increase the
resolution without proportionally increasing an image size, and also if you
increase an image size without proportionally reducing the resolution, it
causes an increase in the image file size. For example, an image file with a
resolution of 200 pixels per inch is four times larger than an image file size
with the same size and resolution of 100 pixels per inch.
The operation can only be applied to a single image at a time. So, if there is only
one available image in the drawing (visible, allocated on an unlocked layer),then it
is automatically selected. Otherwise you should select an image. If you did not
select an image prior to invoking the command, or selected several images, then a
dialog box appears, containing a list of all inserted or selected images, and you
should select the one to be processed.
