Vectorization

Page 189 highlights

13 Vectorization Automatic vectorization is a procedure for generating vector objects from original raster images. There are two types of vectorization: recognition of raster entities and approximation of raster objects. The vectorization algorithms of the first type search for raster image fragments, which can be represented as basic geometrical AutoCAD entities, and create appropriate vector objects. These algorithms recognize raster analogues of vector entities. WiseImage Pro uses a set of independent recognition algorithms, which can be used in various combinations, which enable you to obtain a vector image of optimal structure. WiseImage Pro recognizes objects of the following types: points, lines, circles, arcs, polylines, hatches, texts and symbols. You can train the program to recognize new characters and symbols. When vectorizing lines, circles, arcs and polylines, the program can recognize the line style of objects, and also arrows on lines and arcs. You can force orthogonal alignment of lines which have a small deviation from either the horizontal or vertical axis. The approximating algorithms are used to vectorize arbitrary raster objects. You can approximate the central lines of arbitrary raster lines by polylines or raster objects by outlines. You can tune the recognition by yourself or use one of the standard sets of parameters - recognition templates. Setting Up Vectorization You can tune vectorization using the Conversion Options dialog box. The main vectorization parameters are set in the Recognition and Options tabs. If the search and recognition of text and symbols are enabled, then you should also set up parameters in the Texts and Symbols tabs, described further in this chapter. You can approximate the widths of objects obtained after vectorization to specified values, and also place them on various AutoCAD layers and assign various colors to them. These operations are configured with the Options tab. The procedure for setting up the parameters of this tab is described in "Controlling Properties of Created Objects " on page 188. To set up vectorization parameters 1. Open the Conversion Options dialog box using one of the following methods: Choose Conversion Options from the rConvert menu or click the Conversion Options button on the Raster to Vector toolbar.

13 Vectorization
Automatic vectorization is a procedure for generating vector objects from original
raster images. There are two types of vectorization: recognition of raster entities
and approximation of raster objects.
The vectorization algorithms of the first type search for raster image fragments,
which can be represented as basic geometrical AutoCAD entities, and create
appropriate vector objects. These algorithms recognize raster analogues of vector
entities. WiseImage Pro uses a set of independent recognition algorithms, which
can be used in various combinations, which enable you to obtain a vector image of

deviation from either the horizontal or vertical axis.
The approximating algorithms are used to vectorize arbitrary raster objects. You
can approximate the central lines of arbitrary raster lines by polylines or raster
objects by outlines.
You can tune the recognition by yourself or use one of
the standard sets of parameters –
recognition templates
.
Setting Up Vectorization
You can tune vectorization using the
Conversion Options
dialog box. The main
vectorization parameters are set in the
Recognition
and
Options
tabs. If the search
and recognition of text and symbols are enabled, then you should also set up
parameters in the
Texts
and
Symbols
tabs, described further in this chapter.
You can approximate the widths of objects obtained after vectorization to specified
values, and also place them on various AutoCAD layers and assign various colors
to them. These operations are configured with the
Options
tab. The procedure for
setting up the parameters of this tab is described in “Controlling Properties of
Created Objects ” on page 188.
To set up vectorization parameters
1. Open the
Conversion Options
dialog box using one of the following
methods:
Choose
Conversion Options
from the
rConvert
menu
or click the
Conversion
Options
button on the
Raster to Vector
toolbar.
