Checking drive chain tension (fig. 53) When the vehicle is on the side stand, the drive chain should be at a certain distance from the swinging arm (min. distance 20-25 mm). If the distance is not as specified, contact an Authorised Dealer or Service Center to have the drive chain tensioned. Warning For the rider's safety, it is fundamental that the eccentric hub screws are properly tightened. A chain that has not been properly tensioned might cause early wear of any transmission parts. Chain lubrication The chain fitted on your motorcycle has O-rings that keep dirt out of and lubricant inside the sliding parts. The seals might be irreparably damaged if the chain is cleaned using non-specific solvents or washed using steam or water jets. Dry the chain using compressed air or absorbent material and apply SHELL Advance Chain or Advance Teflon Chain on each link.
