STARTING AND STOPPING CHAIN BRAKE Ensure chain brake is unlocked by pulling the front hand guard back toward the front handle as far as possible. The chain brake must be unlocked before cutting with the saw. aa WARNING: The chain must not move when the engine runs at idle speed. If the chain moves at idle speed refer to CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT within this manual. aa WARNING: Avoid contact with the muffler. A hot muffler can cause serious burns. To stop the engine move the ON/STOP switch to the STOP position. To start the engine hold the saw firmly on the ground as illustrated. Make sure the chain is free to turn without contacting any object. 1. Press the primer 10 times. The bulb does need not to be completely filled with fuel. 2. Pull the choke lever out to the full choke position. 3. Pull the starter handle with your right hand and pull out the starter cord slowly until you feel a resistance (as the starter pawls engage) then pull firmly and rapidly 5 times. NOTE: If the engine sounds as if it is trying to start before the 5th pull, stop pulling and immediately proceed to the next step. 4. Push the choke lever to the half choke position. 5. Pull the starter handle firmly and rapidly until the engine starts. Allow the engine to run for approximately 30 seconds. Then, squeeze and release the throttle trigger to allow engine to return to idle speed. aa WARNING: Do not attempt to throw or dropstart the chain saw. Doing so will put the operator at risk of serious injury due to loss of control of the chain saw. IMPORTANT: When pulling the starter rope, do not use the full extent of the rope as this can cause the rope to break. Do not let starter rope snap back. Hold the handle and let the rope rewind slowly. NOTE: For cold weather starting, start the unit at FULL CHOKE; allow the engine to warm up before squeezing the throttle trigger. NOTE: Do not attempt to cut material with the choke lever in the FULL CHOKE position. HELPFUL TIP: If your engine still does not start after following these instructions, please call customer support. NOTE: Ensure chain brake is unlocked by pulling the front hand guard back toward the front handle as far as possible. The chain brake must be unlocked before cutting with the saw. STARTING A WARM ENGINE Follow steps 1,2,4 and 5 in the cold engine starting instructions. aa WARNING! Long term inhalation of the engine's exhaust fumes, chain oil mist and dust from sawdust can represent a health risk. DIFFICULT STARTING STARTING A COLD ENGINE NOTE: In the following steps, when the choke lever is pulled out to the full extent, the correct throttle setting for starting is set automatically. • The chain brake must be locked when the chain saw (or starting a flooded engine) The engine may be flooded with too much fuel if it has not started after 10 pulls. Flooded engines can be cleared of excess fuel by pushing the choke lever in completely (to the OFF CHOKE position) and then following the warm engine starting procedure. Ensure the ON/STOP switch is in the ON position. Starting could require pulling the starter rope handle many times depending on how badly the unit is flooded. If engine fails to start, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call customer support. 9

STARTING AND STOPPING
CHAIN BRAKE
Ensure chain brake is unlocked by pulling the front
hand guard back toward the front handle as far as
possible. The chain brake must be unlocked before
cutting with the saw.

WARNING: The chain must not move when
the engine runs at idle speed. If the chain
moves at idle speed refer to CARBURETOR
ADJUSTMENT within this manual.

WARNING: Avoid contact with the mufFer. A
hot mufFer can cause serious burns.
To stop the engine move the ON/STOP switch to the
STOP position.
To start the engine hold the saw Frmly on the ground
as illustrated. Make sure the chain is free to turn
without contacting any object.

WARNING: Do not attempt to throw or drop-
start the chain saw. Doing so will put the
operator at risk of serious injury due to loss
of control of the chain saw.
IMPORTANT: When pulling the starter rope, do not
use the full extent of the rope as this can cause the
rope to break. Do not let starter rope snap back.
Hold the handle and let the rope rewind slowly.
NOTE: For cold weather starting, start the unit at

STARTING A COLD ENGINE
NOTE: In the following steps, when the choke lever
is pulled out to the full extent, the correct throttle
setting for starting is set automatically.
The chain brake must be locked when the chain saw
is started. Lock the brake by moving the front hand
guard forward.
• Move ON/STOP switch to the ON position.
Grip the front handle with your left hand. Hold the
chain saw on the ground by placing your right foot
through the rear handle.
NOTE: There is a simpliFed start reminder with
illustrations to describe each step on the rear edge
of the saw.

DIFFICULT STARTING
(or starting a Fooded engine)
The engine may be ±ooded with too much fuel if it
has not started after 10 pulls. ²looded engines can
be cleared of excess fuel by pushing the choke lever
in completely (to the O²² CHOKE position) and then
following the warm engine starting procedure.
Ensure the ON/STOP switch is in the ON position.
Starting could require pulling the starter rope
handle many times depending on how badly the
unit is ±ooded. If engine fails to start, refer to the
TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call customer
support.
