Component Identification Vehicle Identification Number The vehicle identification number (VIN) is stamped into the front of the steering head and also appears on the certification label. Engine Identification Number The engine identification number is a combination of the engine model and serial numbers. The first 8 digits are the engine model number and the last 5 digits are the serial number. Operation Starting the Engine The starter interlock system allows the engine to be started only when the transmission is in neutral, or when the transmission is in gear with the clutch disengaged (clutch lever pulled in).
