100 MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT Spring Preload Adjuster Settings NOTICE Be careful not to scratch the inner tube and not to damage the dust seal. Avoid scratching or damaging the inner tube or the dust seal. Use a mild detergent and sponge out dirt with plenty of water. NOTE ○ Set the rebound and compression damping and spring preload setting to the softest settings before disassembly to prevent the needle of adjusters from damping. Record the setting before turning the adjuster. A. Seated Position (Adjuster Turned Fully Counterclockwise) B. Harder (Clockwise) C. Softer (Counterclockwise) D. Standard Setting the number plate (see Steering section). • Remove the front fork clamp bolts (upper). • Loosen the front fork top plug with the top plug • Loosen wrench (special tool: 57001-1645). *: Number of turns clockwise usable range 60 clicks or more. Standard Spring Preload Adjuster Setting 22 clicks* *: Clockwise from the fully seated position NOTE ○ Do not take off the base valve assembly (left fork only). • Thoroughly clean the forks before disassembly. Front Fork Oil Change
Thoroughly clean the forks before disassembly.
NOTICE

or the dust seal. Use a mild detergent and
sponge out dirt with plenty of water.
NOTE
Set the rebound and compression damping and
spring preload setting to the softest settings be-
fore disassembly to prevent the needle of adjust-
ers
from
damping.
Record
the
setting
before
turning the adjuster.
Remove the number plate (see Steering section).
Loosen the front fork clamp bolts (upper).
Loosen the front fork top plug with the top plug
wrench (special tool: 57001-1645).
NOTE
Do not take off the base valve assembly (left fork
only).
