36 GENERAL INFORMATION j Fuel Tank The fuel tank is mounted under the right side of the front seat. This engine is certified to operate on Diesel Fuel. Use clean, fresh diesel fuel (ASTM D975) for good performance of this vehicle. Avoid refilling the tank in the rain or where heavy dust is blowing, so that the fuel does not get contaminated. WARNING Diesel fuel is flammable and can ignite under certain conditions. To avoid the potential for burns or other injuries when refueling, turn the ignition key to "OFF". Do not smoke. Make sure the area is well ventilated and free from any source of flame or sparks; this includes any appliance with a pilot light. Never fill the tank so the fuel level rises into the filler neck. If the tank is overfilled, heat may cause the fuel to expand and overflow through the vents in the tank cap. After refueling, make sure the fuel tank cap is closed securely. If gasoline is spilled on the fuel tank, wipe it off immediately. Fuel Requirements: NOTICE Fuel contaminated by water or dirt can cause severe damage to the fuel system. Fuel Type The use of quality fuel from reputable supplier, specially formulated for vehicle use, is recommended to maintain performance and life from the engine. In all cases, diesel fuel of minimum cetane number 40 (ASTM D975) should be used. When operating in cold weather or high altitude above 1 500 m (5 000 ft), diesel fuel of greater cetane number is recommended. If available in your area, a high cetane "premium" diesel fuel may offer improved cold-starting and warm-up performance. A. Fuel Tank B. Filling Cap
