30 GENERAL INFORMATION j GENERAL INFORMATION Cold Weather Information Fuel For most year - round service, number 2-D diesel fuel meeting ASTM specification D-975 will provide good performance. At temperatures below -7°C (20°F), number 2-D grade diesel fuel thickens enough to clog the fuel filter. This is usually caused by naturally-occurring paraffin in diesel fuel turning to wax as it gets colder. If the engine starts but stalls after a short time and will not restart, the fuel filter may be clogged. For best results in cold weather use climatized number 2-D diesel fuel or dilute the number 2-D diesel fuel with 50% number 1-D diesel fuel. This will provide better protection from fuel gelling or wax plugging the fuel filters. When using the vehicle at temperatures below í20°C (í4°F), consult your dealer about the best fuel to use. żDo NOTE not add gasoline, gasohol, alcohol, alcohol or aftermarket cetane improver additives to diesel fuel. Damage to the fuel injection system may result. Engine Oil Use only oils conforming to API Service CF or CF -4. Use the proper SAE viscosity grade of engine oil for the expected ambient temperature range as indicated in the following chart. STARTING TEMPERATURE RANGE ANTICIPATED BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE WARNING Starting fluids such as ether are explosive and may cause severe injury. Do not use starting fluids containing ether in the air intake system.
