Lubrication Recommendations Oil and Filter Change MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION 4-Cycle Engines With External Oil Tank 1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. 2. Clean the area around the drain plug, which is located on either the bottom of the oil tank or on the bottom of the engine. 3. Run the engine for two to three minutes until warm, then turn the engine off. Contact with hot oil may result in serious burns. Do not allow hot oil to come into contact with skin. CAUTION 4. Place a drain pan beneath the vehicle and remove the drain plug. 5. Allow the oil to drain completely. 6. Install a new sealing washer on the oil drain plug. NOTE: The sealing surfaces on the drain plug and on the oil tank should be clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches. 7. Reinstall the drain plug. Torque to 14-17 ft. lbs. (19-23 Nm). 8. Disconnect the lower oil delivery hose. Remove the fitting (C) from the oil tank. Clean the fitting E screen. Reinstall the fitting screen, torquing to 14-17 ft. C lbs. (19-23 Nm). Reattach oil line. Torque hose clamp (E) to 25 in. lbs. 9. Place shop towels beneath the oil filter. Using an oil filter wrench, turn the filter counterclockwise to remove. A 10. 1. Positionthevehicleonalevelsurface.
2. Cleantheareaaroundthedrainplug,whichislocatedoneitherthe
bottomoftheoiltankoronthebottomoftheengine.
3. Runtheenginefortwotothreeminutesuntilwarm,thenturnthe
engineoff.
4. Placeadrainpanbeneaththevehicleandremovethedrainplug.
5. Allowtheoiltodraincompletely.
6. Installanewsealingwasherontheoildrainplug.
NOTE:
The
sealingsurfacesonthedrainplugandontheoiltankshouldbe
cleanandfreeofburrs,nicksorscratches.
7. Reinstallthedrainplug.Torqueto14-17ft.lbs.(19-23Nm).
8. Disconnecttheloweroil
deliveryhose. Removethe
fitting(C)fromtheoil
tank. Cleanthefitting
screen. Reinstallthefitting
screen,torquingto14-17ft.
lbs.(19-23Nm).Reattach
oilline.Torquehoseclamp
(E)to25in.lbs.
9. Placeshoptowelsbeneath
theoilfilter.Usinganoil
filterwrench,turnthefilter
counterclockwiseto
remove.
10. Usingaclean,drycloth,
cleanthefiltersealing
surfaceonthecrankcase.
Contactwithhotoilmayresultinseriousburns. Donotallowhot
oiltocomeintocontactwithskin.
