Spark Arrestor MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION 1 1 1 1. Remove the arrestor clean-out plug(s) (1) from the bottom of the muffler. 2. Place the transmission in neutral and start the engine. 3. Purge carbon from the system by momentarily revving the engine several times. 4. If carbon is expelled, cover the exhaust outlet and rap on the pipe around the cleanout plug while revving the engine several more times. 5. If particles are still suspected to be in the muffler, back the vehicle onto an incline so the rear of the vehicle is one foot higher than the front. Set the parking brake and block the wheels. Make sure the vehicle is in neutral and repeat steps 3 and 4. 6. If particles are still suspected to be in the muffler, drive the vehicle onto the incline so the front of the vehicle is one foot higher than the rear. Set the parking brake and block the wheels. Make sure the vehicle is in neutral and repeat steps 3 and 4. 7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 until no more particles are expelled when the engine is revved. 8. Stop the engine and allow the arrestor to cool. Reinstall the arrestor plug. 129

1. Removethearrestorclean-outplug(s)(1)fromthebottomofthe
muffler.
2. Placethetransmissioninneutralandstarttheengine.
3. Purgecarbonfromthesystembymomentarilyrevvingtheengine
severaltimes.
4. Ifcarbonisexpelled,covertheexhaustoutletandraponthepipe
aroundthecleanoutplugwhilerevvingtheengineseveralmore
times.
5. Ifparticlesarestillsuspectedtobeinthemuffler,backthevehicle
ontoaninclinesotherearofthevehicleisonefoothigherthanthe
front. Settheparkingbrakeandblockthewheels. Makesurethe
vehicleisinneutralandrepeatsteps3and4.
6. Ifparticlesarestillsuspectedtobeinthemuffler,drivethevehicle
ontotheinclinesothefrontofthevehicleisonefoothigherthan
therear. Settheparkingbrakeandblockthewheels. Makesure
thevehicleisinneutralandrepeatsteps3and4.
7. Repeatsteps3through6untilnomoreparticlesareexpelledwhen
theengineisrevved.
8. Stoptheengineandallowthearrestortocool. Reinstallthe
arrestorplug.
