OPERATION Starting the Engine Starting a Warm Engine Warm engines do not normally require the use of the choke. Using the choke can cause the spark plug to become wet fouled. 1. Position the vehicle on a level surface with the transmission in neutral. 2. Lock the parking brake, turn the fuel tank valve to "on", sit on the vehicle, and turn the engine stop switch to "run". 3. If the engine has cooled to a point where it does not readily start, intermittent use of the choke button (pulled half way out) may be necessary. 4. If the engine is over-choked when warm, depress the throttle lever fully while cranking to aid in starting. 5. Release the throttle lever immediately after the engine starts. If the engine does not start and all conditions are favorable, change the spark plug and try again. Cold Weather Operation for 4-Cycle Engines If the ATV is used year-round, check the oil level frequently. A rising oil level could indicate the accumulation of water in the bottom of the oil tank. Water in the bottom of the tank can lead to engine damage and must be drained. Water accumulation increases as outside temperature decreases. See your Polaris dealer for engine heater kits, which provide quicker warm-ups and easier starting in colder weather. 60
