MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT 107 Air Cleaner A clogged air cleaner restricts the engine's air intake, increasing fuel consumption, reducing engine power, and causes spark plug fouling. in the air filter case and the catch tank installed at the bottom of the filter case should be removed and cleaned immediately. Air Cleaner
A clogged air cleaner restricts the engine’s air in-
take, increasing fuel consumption, reducing engine
power, and causes spark plug fouling.

Clean the air cleaner regularly and according
to the instructions in this section.
NOTICE
A clogged air cleaner may allow dirt and dust
to enter the engine causing excessive wear

The air cleaner element must be cleaned peri-
odically (see the Periodic Maintenance Chart).
In
dusty areas, the element should be cleaned more
frequently than the recommended interval. After rid-
ing through rain or on muddy roads, the element
in the air filter case and the catch tank installed at
the bottom of the filter case should be removed and
cleaned immediately.
Element Cleaning
To clean the air cleaner:
