Chapter 3: Building Your Storage Space ● 31 Starting Adaptec Storage Manager on Remote Systems The next step is to start Adaptec Storage Manager on all the remote systems in your storage space. (For more information about 'remote' systems, see page 26.) You can run the full application on each system. Alternatively, if your storage space includes systems that aren't connected to monitors (and therefore won't require the user interface described in this User's Guide), you can run the Agent only. You may want to do this if system resources are limited, or if you want more system resources available for other tasks. Starting the Full Application To start the full Adaptec Storage Manager application, follow the instructions in Starting and Logging In on the Local System on page 27. Starting the Agent Only To start the Adaptec Storage Manager Agent only, follow the instructions for your operating system: ● For Windows, see the following section. ● For Linux or VMWare, see page 31. ● For UnixWare or OpenServer, see page 32. ● For Solaris, see page 32. Windows On systems running Windows, the Adaptec Storage Manager Agent starts automatically when the system is powered on. To verify that the Agent is running: 1 Open the Windows Control Panel. 2 Double-click Administrative Tools, then double-click Services. 3 In the list of services, check that the Adaptec Storage Manager Agent is installed and running. If it's not, you can choose to restart it. Linux or VMWare On systems running Linux or VMWare, the Adaptec Storage Manager Agent starts automatically when the system is powered on. To verify that the Agent is running: 1 Open a shell window. 2 Enter this command: ps -ef | grep StorAgnt.sh If the Agent is running, it's listed as sh StorAgnt.sh.
