Cleaning and replacing the spark plugs (fig. 80.1 fig. 80.2) Spark plugs are essential to smooth engine running and should be checked at regular intervals. Spark plugs condition provides a good measure of engine condition. Have the spark plugs inspected or replaced at a Ducati Dealer or Authorized Workshop. Firstly, they will check the colour of the ceramic insulator of the central electrode: a light brown, even colour is a sign of good engine condition. Notes The motorcycle can either be fitted with spark plugs with ground electrode (1, fig. 80.1) or with spark plugs without ground electrode (2, fig. 80.2). If it is fitted with spark plugs with ground electrode, the wear of the central electrode and the electrode gap will also be checked. The latter must be: 0.6-0.7 mm.
