• HTTP / socks proxy: BrightSign does not currently support HTTP proxy or socks proxy configurations. Although BrightSign has a private IP address, it cannot make connections to the Internet by itself. Instead it has to connect to a proxy server and ask it to make the connection to the Internet. This can either be a protocol specific proxy (like many web proxies/caches) or a protocol agnostic proxy (e.g. socks). Networking software options After you connect your BrightSign hardware to your network and configure it to communicate with your network, you can choose whether you want to use Simple Networking software or BrightSign Network Manager to manage your BrightSign devices and content on your network. The following is a brief description of the features offered by each of these networking software options: • Simple Networking: This method provides an easy way to update BrightSign devices remotely. Create a BrightSign folder on your web server, place your new content in this folder, and then use BrightSign's Windows tool to create a sync file, so the BrightSign knows what's changed in the folder. When you use the NetworkTimer command in your playlist, BrightSign automatically downloads the content you place in your network folder. • BrightSign Network Manager: This is a web-based solution that is designed for enterprise situations with a large number of BrightSign devices that require advanced networking features including: • Reporting: Track all BrightSign devices including the latest connectivity data, CF/SD card size, and current and upcoming presentations. • Unit Organization: Create groups and deploy content very quickly to one or more groups. • Scheduling: Pick the dates and times you want to deploy content to each group. • Content Organization: Upload audio, video, and image files to a central library for easy access. • Presentation Creating: Use a graphical interface to build playlists (with or without zones). NOTE: To use BrightSign Network Manager, you must first establish a network account with BrightSign. To get a test account, please contact [email protected]. 104 • •
