CHAPTER 5: Troubleshooting Your HAL System Installation Windows 8 or later: Click Start, begin typing "Network and Sharing", click Network and Sharing Center from the top of the list, click the network link associated with the connection on which the HAL resides, and then click the Details button in the dialog box that displays. Verify that the first two numbers of one of the IP addresses are 169.254. The second two numbers can be anything between 0 and 255. l To determine if HAL's link-local IP address has been assigned to the wrong NIC: Open a DOS command box (as described in step 6). At the DOS prompt, type route print. The route table displays. Scan the list of IP addresses, looking for one or more that begin with 169.254. Verify that they are assigned to the proper NIC. If the IP address has been assigned to the wrong NIC, or if you do not see the address at all, please contact Rane Technical Support. 8. Ask your IT department for some assistance. If your computer is administered by an IT department, you may need their help. Refer them to "Required Ports" on page 8 as well as "Required Processes " on page 9. They can find more information in the Halogen Help System by searching on network traffic. Perhaps you are the IT department. In that case, these IT topics are meant for you! Using Meters to Troubleshoot Meters can be useful when troubleshooting your audio, specifically the Meter Peak Hold Time value. The default value for Meter Peak Hold Time is typically sufficient, but when troubleshooting, it may be useful to extend the hold time. For example, suppose there is an audio signal somewhere in the system's signal path that's too loud for a subsequent audio device. Lengthening the peak hold time to infinite (always keeping the highest peak value displayed) helps you find the overload point(s) in the audio signal chain, as it reveals the highest peak value for every metered channel displayed.
