Operation ESU11310 Break-in There is never a more important period in the life of your engine than the period between 0 and 500 km (300 mi). For this reason, you should read the following material carefully. Since the engine is brand new, do not put an excessive load on it for the first 500 km (300 mi). The various parts in the engine wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances. During this period, prolonged fullthrottle operation or any condition that might result in engine overheating must be avoided. G Avoid higher speeds or more difficult maneuvers until you have become thoroughly familiar with your snowmobile and all of its controls. Operating your snowmobile for the first time Start the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes. 0-160 km (0-100 mi) Avoid prolonged operation above 6000 r/min. 160-500 km (100-300 mi) Avoid prolonged operation above 8000 r/min. 500 km (300 mi) and beyond The snowmobile can now be operated normally. If any engine trouble should occur during the engine break-in period, immediately have a Yamaha dealer check the snowmobile. Riding your snowmobile requires skills acquired through practice over a period of time. Take the time to learn the basic techniques well before attempting more difficult maneuvers. The short time spent checking the condition of the snowmobile will be rewarded with added safety and a more reliable snowmobile. Always wear the proper clothing for both warmth and to help protect you from injury if an accident occurs. Become familiar with operating your snowmobile at low speeds, even if you are an experienced rider. Do not attempt to operate at maximum performance until you are totally familiar with the snowmobile's handling and performance characteristics. Operating your snowmobile for the
first time
Start the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes.
0–160 km (0–100 mi)
Avoid prolonged operation above 6000 r/min.
160–500 km (100–300 mi)
Avoid prolonged operation above 8000 r/min.
500 km (300 mi) and beyond
The snowmobile can now be operated nor-
mally.
