Charging the battery (fig. 51) Before charging the battery, it is best to remove it from the motorcycle. Remove the LH half-fairing (see page 56). Always disconnect the black negative terminal (-) first, and then the red positive terminal (+). Undo the two screws (1) on battery brackets and remove the battery. Warning Batteries develop explosive gases: keep battery away from heat sources and flames. Charge the battery in a well ventilated room. Connect battery charger red lead to battery positive terminal (+), the black lead to battery negative terminal (-). Important Always make sure the charger is off when you connect the battery to it, or you might get sparks at the battery terminals that could ignite the gases inside the cells. Always connect the red positive terminal (+) first.
