SECTION 11-CASTERS SECTION 11-CASTERS ƽ WARNING After ANY adjustments, repair or service and BEFORE use, make sure that all attaching hardware is tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result. Before performing any maintenance, adjustment or service verify that ON/OFF switch on the joystick is in the OFF position. CAUTION As with any vehicle, the wheels, casters and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and wear and should be replaced. Adjusting Forks NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 11.1. NOTE: It may be necessary to extend the telescoping front rigging support to gain access to the caster headtube hardware. Refer to Adjusting/Replacing Telescoping Front Rigging Support on page 37. 1. Remove the dust cover from the caster headtube. 2. To properly tighten caster journal system and guard against flutter, perform the following check: A. Remove battery boxes from wheelchair. Refer to Installing/Removing the Battery Boxes on page 53. B. Tip back the wheelchair to floor. C. Pivot both forks and casters to top of their arc simultaneously. D. Let casters drop to bottom of arc (wheels should swing once to one-side, then immediately rest in a straight downward position). E. Adjust locknuts according to freedom of caster swing. Dust Cover Locknut Nylon Washer Caster Headtube Fork 3. Test wheelchair for maneuverability. 4. Readjust locknuts, if necessary, and repeat STEPS 1-3 until correct. Caster 5. Adjusting Forks
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 11.1.
NOTE: It may be necessary to extend the telescoping front rigging support to gain access to the
caster headtube hardware. Refer to Adjusting/Replacing Telescoping Front Rigging Support
on
page 37.
1.
Remove the dust cover from the caster headtube.
2.
To properly tighten caster journal system and guard against flutter, perform the
following check:
A.
Remove battery boxes from wheelchair. Refer to Installing/Removing the Battery
Boxes
on page 53.
B.
Tip back the wheelchair to floor.
C.
Pivot both forks and casters to top
of their arc simultaneously.
D.
Let casters drop to bottom of arc
(wheels should swing once to
one-side, then immediately rest in a
straight downward position).
E.
Adjust locknuts according to
freedom of caster swing.
3.
Test wheelchair for maneuverability.
4.
Readjust locknuts, if necessary, and
repeat STEPS 1-3 until correct.
5.
Snap dust cover into the caster
headtube.
