MAINTENANCE Engine Oil Check Engine Oil Level 1. With the transmission in neutral, start and run the engine for several minutes. 2. Shut the engine off and wait for 3-5 minutes. 3. With the engine at normal operating temperature, straddle the motorcycle on level ground and bring it to a vertical position. Remove the oil fill cap and wipe the dipstick clean. Reinstall the dipstick and turn the cap clockwise until it seats. 4. Remove the dipstick again and note the oil level. 5. If necessary, add or remove oil to bring the level into the area on the dipstick, above the ADD mark and below the FULL mark (see page 50). Repeat steps 1-2 each time you adjust the oil level. 1. Operating the engine with too much or too little oil can cause serious engine damage or engine seizure, resulting in loss of control of the motorcycle. 84

Engine Oil
Check Engine Oil Level
1.
With the transmission in neutral, start and run the engine for
several minutes.
2.
Shut the engine off and wait for 3-5 minutes.
3.
With the engine at normal operating temperature, straddle the
motorcycle on level ground and bring it to a vertical position.
Remove the oil fill cap and wipe the dipstick clean. Reinstall the
dipstick and turn the cap clockwise until it seats.
4.
Remove the dipstick again and note the oil level.
5.
If necessary, add or remove oil to bring the level into the area on
the dipstick, above the ADD mark and below the FULL mark
(see page 50). Repeat steps 1-2 each time you adjust the oil level.
Do not operate the motorcycle with the oil level above the FULL mark or below the ADD mark.
Operating the engine with too much or too little oil can cause serious engine damage or engine
seizure, resulting in loss of control of the motorcycle.
