MAINTENANCE Battery Battery Removal 1. Remove the seat (page 122) and left side cover. 2. Remove battery cover retaining nuts, and remove the cover(A). 3. Disconnect the negative ( - ) battery cables (black cables with ends exposed) first (B). 4. Disconnect the positive ( + ) cables (cable ends are covered with a red boot) (C). B A C Caution Disconnecting the positive cable first can produce an electric shock that could result in damage or injury. 5. Slide the battery out. Universal Tool (A) The universal tool is located in a holder under the left side cover. The universal tool is a combination 6mm hexagonal wrench with a Phillips screwdriver tip, and can be used to service the following items: Oil Drain Plug Indicator Bulbs 124 Air Filter Headlight Bulb Turn Signal Bulb Misc. Accessory Fasteners

Battery Removal
1.
Remove the seat (page 122) and left side cover.
2.
Remove battery cover retaining nuts, and remove the cover(A).
3.
Disconnect the negative ( - ) battery cables (black cables with ends
exposed) first (B).
4.
Disconnect the positive ( + ) cables (cable ends are covered with a
red boot) (C).
Disconnecting the positive cable first can produce an electric shock
that could result in damage or injury.
