New Vehicle "Break-In" Ignition Positions Use the key to turn the ignition switch to five different positions. NOTICE: Your vehicle doesn't need an elaborate "break-in." But it will perform better in the long run if you follow these guidelines: a Keep your speed at 55 mph (88 k n l h j o r less for the first500 miles (805 kmj. 0 Don't drive at any one speed fast or slow for the first 500 miles (805 km). Don't make full-throttle starts. a Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles (322 km) orso. During this time your new brake linings aren't yet broken in. Hard stops withnew linings can mean premature wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in guideline every time you get newbrake linings. 0 Don't tow a trailer during break-in. Push in the key and turn it toward you. Your steering wheel will remain locked, just as it was before yo~l inserted the key. 2-12
