BASIC OPERATION 5 ■■ Receiving and transmitting CAUTION: DO NOT transmit without an antenna. 1 NOTE: Before using the transceiver for the first time, the battery pack 2 must be fully charged for optimum life and operation. See Section 4 for battery charging. 3 1. Push [▲] or [▼] to select a channel. ••When a signal is received, " " is displayed. 1 Select a channel. 4 2. Release [PTT] to receive. 6 TIP: To maximize the readability of your transmitted signal, pause for a second after pushing [PTT] and hold the microphone 5 ~ 10 cm (2 ~ 7 4 inches) from your mouth, and then speak at your normal voice level. 8 NOTE: 9 ••To conserve battery power, the Power Save function automatically turns ON when no signal is received for 5 seconds. 10 ••The Time-out Timer function* cuts OFF transmission after 5 minutes of continuously transmitting, to prevent prolonged 11 transmission. 10 seconds before transmission is cut off, a beep sounds to indicate the transmission will be cut off, and "TOT" blinks. 12 After it is cut OFF, "TOT" is displayed for 10 seconds, and you cannot transmit until it disappears. 2 Push to transmit. 13 * This function may not be installed, depending on the transceiver version. 3 Release to receive. 14 15 DDSP Line Convert function When the optional speaker microphone is not used, the speaker 16 can be converted into a microphone. LL The speaker automatically converts into a microphone when the 17 transceiver is floating on the water, depending on the Set mode setting. (p. 19) 18 zz Push [VOL/SQL] while holding down [PTT] to turn the function ON or OFF. ■■ Adjusting the volume level You can adjust the volume level while the "VOL" icon is blinking. 1. Push [VOL/SQL] once to enter the Volume Adjustment mode. 2. Push [▲] or [▼] to adjust the volume level. 3. Push [VOL/SQL] twice to exit the Volume Adjustment mode. 11
