To repiaa? or adjust printer mechanism parts, refer to Chapter 3, Dkaswmb ly and Assembly, and Chapter 4, Adjusfrnenfs. If a symptom recurs following a repair attempt, look for other possible causes and solutions in the table b&low. Table 5-7. Printer Mechanism Repair Symptom The CR motor does not operate. The carriage moves, but no printing is performed. Cause Checkpoint Soiution The transport locking bracket (used to hoid the carriage in place when the printer is moved) has not been removed. Verify that the transport Iocidng bracket has been removed. Foreign objects are kxiged in the gears or elsewhere (e.g., paper dust on the carriage encoder beft) in the mechanism. Manuafly move the carriage to see if the the motor rotates. The CR motor is defective. Measure the coil resistance of the CR motor. It should be approximately 6.2 ohms. The carriage timing belt is defective. Manualiy check the carriage timing Mt tension. Remove bracket. (Refer to Section 3.1.) Remove any foreign objects. Replace the CR motor. Perform the carriage timing belt tension adjustment, as described in Section 4.1.2. The carriage guide shaft parallelism value is incorrect. The CR sensor is defective. The carriage encoder belt is damaged or covered with dust. The printhesd FPC common wires are broken. Check whether the carriage moves srnoothiy when moved manuaiiy. (Check that foreign objects are not lodged in the printer mechanism.) Check the waveform for the cmiage encoder signal. (Refer to Table 5-6.) Check the encoder belt (bebw the carriage timing belt). Check the continuity of the common wires for the printhead FPC. Perform the carriage guide shaft paraiieliim adjustment, as described in Section 4.1.5. Repisce the CR sensor. Replace or clean the carnage encoder belt. Replace the FPC. 5-24 Rev. A
