4ir Cleaner To remove the air cleaner, open both clamps and push the rear of the air cleaner toward the rear of the engine compartment. If it isn't there, and the engine backfires, you could be burned. Don't drive with it off, and be careful working on the engine with the air cleaner off. Insert a new filter. Then replace the air cleaner assembly, making certain the PVC air tube is properly seated in the left hand valve cover and the clamps are securely fastened.
