NOTICE: This NOTICE applies only if youhave the 3800 V6 engine and the automatic overdrive transaxle. If your vehicle is so equipped, and if it seems to start up rather slowly, or if it seems not to shift gears as you gofaster, something may be wrong with a transaxle system sensor. If you drive very far that way, your vehicle can be damaged. So, if this happens, have your vehicle serviced right away. Until then, you can use SECOND(2) when you are driving less than 35 mph (56 km/h) and OVERDRIVE (0) higherspeeds. for THIRD GEAR (D): If your automatic transaxledoes not have OVERDRIVE (@),this position is fornormal driving, at all speeds, most streetand highway in situations. If your automatic transaxle has OVERDRIVE (@), THIRD (D) is like OVERDRIVE(D), but you never go into Overdrive. Here are some times you might choose THIRD (D) instead of OVERDRIVE (@): 0 When driving on hilly, winding roads. When towing a trailer,so there is less shifting between gears. When going down a steep hill. SECOND GEAR (2): This positiongives you more power, but lower fueleconomy. You can use your speed as SECOND ( 2 ) on hills. It can help control you go down steepmountain roads, but then you would also want to useyour brakes off and on. NOTICE: Don't drive inSECOND (2) for more than 5 miles (8 km),or at speeds over 55 mph (88 km/h), or you can damage your transaxle. Use THIRD (D) (OVERDRIVE (a) THIRD (D) if your vehicle or has OVERDRIVE ( )as much as possible. a) Don't shift intoSECOND (2) unless you are going slower than 65 mph (105 km/h), or you can damage yourengine. 2-31
