Side stand (fig. 61) Important Before lowering the side stand, make sure that the supporting surface is hard and flat. Do not park on soft or pebbled ground or on asphalt melted by the sun, etc. or else the motorcycle may fall over. When parking downhill, always position the motorcycle with the rear wheel facing downhill. To pull down the sidestand, hold the motorcycle handlebar with both hands and push down on the sidestand (1) with your foot until it is fully extended. Tilt the motorcycle until the side stand is resting on the ground. Note Check for proper operation of the stand mechanism (two springs, one into the other) and the safety sensor (2) at regular intervals. Note The engine can be started with the side stand down and the gearbox in neutral. If starting with a gear engaged, pull in the clutch lever (in this case the side stand must be up). Warning Do not sit on the motorcycle when it is supported on the side stand. To move the side stand to its resting position (horizontal position), lean the motorcycle to the right while lifting the thrust arm (1) with your foot. 2 1 fig. 61 94
