Charging the battery (fig. 53) Before charging the battery, it is best to remove it from the motorcycle. Remove the left half fairing (see page 58). Always disconnect the black negative terminal (-) first, and then the red positive terminal (+). Unscrew the two screws (1) securing the battery brackets and remove the battery from the battery compartment. + - E Warning The battery produces explosive gases: keep it away from heat sources and flames. Charge the battery in a well-ventilated area. Connect the red battery charger lead to the positive (+) terminal on the battery, and the black lead to the negative (-) terminal. 1 fig. 53 Warning Keep the battery out of the reach of children. Charge the battery at 0.9 A for 5 to 10 hours. Important Always connect up the battery before switching the battery charger on: failure to do so can result in sparking at the battery terminals that could ignite the gases inside the cells. Charging the battery
