CHAPTER 4: Designing and Installing Your HAL System A Few Design and Installation Tips Following are a few simple tips to consider when designing your HAL System and preparing the system for installation: TIP: Review the HAL System features before you begin your design! The key features are explained in this guide as well as in the Halogen Help System. TIP: In your system diagrams, use the HAL System CAD drawings provided by Rane. These CAD files are in the .dwg format, a format for AutoCAD. You can obtain these files from the Rane website as well as on the HAL System product DVD. Also included (in both places) are more detailed color pictures of the hardware in a .jpg format. TIP: This may seem obvious, but we'll say it anyway. Create your design and save it to a Halogen configuration file prior to the installation of the hardware. Provide this configuration file to your installer. Loading this file into the HAL during the installation increases the efficiency and accuracy of the installer's work. Simply include the configuration file along with the other drawings and documentation that you give to your installers. See "About Halogen Configuration Files" on page 170 for more details. TIP: Use the Halogen Notes feature to add comments and special instructions to a configuration. These notes can often be of great use to an installer. For more details, see "Creating, Viewing, and Modifying Notes about a HAL System Configuration" on page 173. TIP: Generate labels for the RADs in your system and insert them prior to handing the system over to the installer. Performing this simple task up front will make the installer's job much easier-and yours too as there is less likelihood of a RAD being installed in the wrong location. For details on generating labels, see "Generating Device Labels" on page 174. TIP: Before completing your design and handing it off to an installer, review the HAL System Installation Guide. It contains valuable information about the installation work flow as well as details on troubleshooting an installation. Installing and Starting the Halogen Software A DVD containing the Halogen software is included with your HAL System hardware. If you're like most people, however, that DVD is gone - accidentally tossed in the recycle bin along with the cardboard box. If that's the case, no need to worry. Simply go to the Rane website at rane.com/hal and download the software, free-of-charge. NOTE: You must be logged in with administrator rights to install this software. 1. Insert the DVD in your computer (or click the Halogen download button on the Rane website). 2. If downloading the software, on the File Download box that appears, click Run. If you want to save the installation file to your computer, click Save. 3. When the download completes (or after inserting the DVD), click Run to begin the installation. The installation program first verifies the contents of the setup package. This may take a few moments. 4. When the verification completes, the Welcome screen appears. Click Next. 168

A Few Design and Installation Tips
Following are a few simple tips to consider when designing your HAL System and preparing the system for instal-
lation:
TIP
:
Review the HAL System features before you begin your design! The key features are explained in this
guide as well as in the Halogen Help System.
TIP
:
In your system diagrams, use the HAL System CAD drawings provided by Rane. These CAD files are in
the .dwg format, a format for AutoCAD. You can obtain these files from the Rane website as well as on the
HAL System product DVD. Also included (in both places) are more detailed color pictures of the hardware
in a .jpg format.
TIP
:
This may seem obvious, but we'll say it anyway. Create your design and save it to a Halogen con-
figuration file prior to the installation of the hardware. Provide this configuration file to your installer. Load-
ing this file into the HAL during the installation increases the efficiency and accuracy of the installer's work.
Simply include the configuration file along with the other drawings and documentation that you give to
your installers. See "About Halogen Configuration Files" on page 170 for more details.
TIP
:
Use the Halogen
Notes
feature to add comments and special instructions to a configuration. These notes
can often be of great use to an installer. For more details, see "Creating, Viewing, and Modifying Notes
about a HAL System Configuration" on page 173.
TIP
:
Generate labels for the RADs in your system and insert them prior to handing the system over to the
installer. Performing this simple task up front will make the installer's job much easier—and yours too as
there is less likelihood of a RAD being installed in the wrong location. For details on generating labels, see
"Generating Device Labels" on page 174.
TIP
:
Before completing your design and handing it off to an installer, review the
HAL System Installation
Guide
. It contains valuable information about the installation work flow as well as details on trou-
bleshooting an installation.
Installing and Starting the Halogen Software
A DVD containing the Halogen software is included with your HAL System hardware. If you’re like most people,
however, that DVD is gone – accidentally tossed in the recycle bin along with the cardboard box. If that’s the
case, no need to worry. Simply go to the Rane website at rane.com/hal and download the software, free-of-charge.
NOTE
:
You must be logged in with administrator rights to install this software.
1.
Insert the DVD in your computer (or click the Halogen download button on the Rane website).
2.
If downloading the software, on the
File Download
box that appears, click
Run
. If you want to save the
installation file to your computer, click
Save
.
3.
When the download completes (or after inserting the DVD), click
Run
to begin the installation. The
installation program first verifies the contents of the setup package. This may take a few moments.
4.
When the verification completes, the
Welcome
screen appears. Click
Next
.
