MAINTENANCE Brakes Add Front Brake Fluid WARNING • Do not operate the front brake while its reservoir cover is removed. Fluid could overflow from the reservoir and cause air to enter the fluid system. Air in the brake fluid system could cause the brakes to malfunction. • Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed, clean container. Using the wrong brake fluid, or allowing contaminants into the brake fluid system, can damage the system seals, resulting in the brakes malfunctioning. 1. 2. 3. 4. Straddle the motorcycle and bring it to a vertical position. Turn the handlebars until the reservoir is horizontal. Wipe the area around the reservoir cover with a clean cloth. Wipe the brake fluid container with a clean cloth. Remove the reservoir cover and gasket. Caution Brake fluid attacks painted surfaces and plastic parts. Always clean spilled brake fluid immediately with plenty of water and a mild detergent. 5. Carefully add enough brake fluid to bring the level just above the sight glass. 6. Reinstall the reservoir gasket and cover. 120

Brakes
Add Front Brake Fluid
Do not operate the front brake while its reservoir cover is removed. Fluid could overflow from the
reservoir and cause air to enter the fluid system. Air in the brake fluid system could cause the brakes
to malfunction.
Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed, clean container. Using the wrong brake fluid, or allowing
contaminants into the brake fluid system, can damage the system seals, resulting in the brakes
malfunctioning.
WARNING
1.
Straddle the motorcycle and bring it to a vertical position. Turn the handlebars until the reservoir is horizontal.
2.
Wipe the area around the reservoir cover with a clean cloth.
3.
Wipe the brake fluid container with a clean cloth.
4.
Remove the reservoir cover and gasket.
Brake fluid attacks painted surfaces and plastic parts. Always clean spilled brake fluid immediately with plenty
of water and a mild detergent.
Caution
5.
Carefully add enough brake fluid to bring the level just above the sight glass.
6.
Reinstall the reservoir gasket and cover.
