The side stand must be fully up (in a horizontal position), as its safety sensor prevents engine start when down. Attention 2 The engine can be started with side stand down and the gearbox in neutral. When starting the bike with a gear engaged, pull the clutch lever (in this case the side stand must be up). Note 3 Check that the stop switch (2, Fig 132) is positioned (RUN), then press the starter button to (3, Fig 132). Allow the engine to start on its own, without turning the throttle twistgrip. Fig 132 If the battery is flat, the system automatically disables operation of the starter motor. Note Do not rev up the engine when it is cold. Allow some time for the oil to warm up and reach all points that need lubricating. Important 181
