MAINTENANCE Brakes Brake Inspection 1. Check the brake system for fluid leaks. 2. Check the brake pedal for excessive travel or a spongy feel. 3. Check the friction pads for wear, damage and looseness. 4. Check brake discs for signs of cracks, excessive corrosion, warping or other damage. Clean any grease using an approved brake cleaner or alcohol. WARNING! Do not apply WD-40 or any petroleum product to brake discs. These types of products are flammable and may also reduce the friction between the brake pad and caliper. 0.030" (0.762 mm) 5. Inspect the brake disc spline and pad wear surface for excessive wear. Change pads when worn to 0.030" (0.762 mm). Steering Wheel Inspection Check the steering wheel for specified freeplay and smooth operation at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 67. 1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. 2. Place the transmission in PARK. 3. Lightly turn the steering wheel left and right. There should be 0.8"-1.0" (20-25 mm) of freeplay. 4. If there is excessive freeplay or strange noises, or the steering feels rough or "catchy," have the steering system inspected by an authorized POLARIS dealer. 85

Brake Inspection

Check the brake system for fluid leaks.
2.
Check the brake pedal for excessive travel or a spongy

Check the friction pads for wear, damage and looseness.
4.
Check brake discs for signs of cracks, excessive
corrosion, warping or other damage. Clean any grease
using an approved brake cleaner or alcohol.
WARNING!
Do not apply WD-40 or any petroleum product to
brake discs. These types of products are flammable and may also

5.
Inspect the brake disc spline and pad wear surface for excessive wear. Change pads when
worn to 0.030” (0.762 mm).
Steering Wheel Inspection
Check the steering wheel for specified freeplay and smooth operation at the intervals
outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 67.

Position the vehicle on a level surface.
2.
Place the transmission in PARK.
3.
Lightly turn the steering wheel left and right. There should be 0.8”-1.0” (20-25 mm) of
freeplay.
4.
If there is excessive freeplay or strange noises, or the steering feels rough or “catchy,”
have the steering system inspected by an authorized POLARIS dealer.
