42 MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT Air Cleaner A clogged air cleaner restricts the air intake, increases fuel consumption, reduces engine power, and can cause spark plug fouling. Inspect the air intake system, which includes the air filter and air duct to the carburetor, and the duct clamps and carburetor, before each race or practice session. żAfter riding through rain or on muddy roads, the element should be cleaned immediately. j Element Removal and Inspection • Remove the screw and remove the left side cover. WARNING Dirt in the engine can cause engine damage or failure leading to an accident resulting in serious injury. Regularly inspect the air intake system for dirt or dust. If any dirt or dust is found in the system, the entire system must be cleaned to help prevent engine damage or failure. NOTICE A clogged air cleaner will affect fuel mixture to the engine and reduce engine power and cause spark plug fouling. A. Left Side Cover B. Bolt the bolts and remove the air cleaner • Remove cover. NOTE żIn dusty areas, the element should be cleaned more frequently than recommended interval.

Air Cleaner

creases fuel consumption, reduces engine power,
and can cause spark plug fouling. Inspect the air in-
take system, which includes the air filter and air duct
to the carburetor, and the duct clamps and carbure-
tor, before each race or practice session.
WARNING
Dirt in the engine can cause engine damage
or failure leading to an accident resulting in
serious injury. Regularly inspect the air in-
take system for dirt or dust.
If any dirt or
dust is found in the system, the entire sys-
tem must be cleaned to help prevent engine
damage or failure.
NOTICE
A clogged air cleaner will affect fuel mixture
to the engine and reduce engine power and
cause spark plug fouling.
NOTE

In dusty areas, the element should be cleaned
more frequently than recommended interval.

element should be cleaned immediately.
Element Removal and Inspection
Remove the screw and remove the left side cover.

Remove the bolts and remove the air cleaner
cover.
