14 Starting the Engine ► Drop the cap into the fuel tank opening (A). ► Turn the cap counter-clockwise with slight pressure until it drops fully into the fuel tank opening (approx. 1/4 turn) (B). This will rotate the base of the cap into the correct starting position for installation (C). The exterior positioning mark (1) on the cap will line up with the "unlocked" symbol on the fuel tank housing. The interior positioning mark (3) should be under the grip and not in line with the outer positioning mark (1). ► Then, turn the cap clockwise, closing it normally. ► If your fuel cap still does not tighten properly, it may be damaged or broken. Stop using the unit and take it to your authorized STIHL dealer for repair. 14 Starting the Engine 14.1 Holding the Chain Saw A B C ► When starting, hold the chain saw firmly in one of three ways: 0000-GXX-2936-A1 English - Position the chain saw on a level surface. Hold the saw firmly on the ground with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Put the toe of your right boot into the rear handle and press down (Illustration A). - Position the chain saw on a level surface. Hold the saw firmly on the ground with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Put the heel of your right boot onto the rear hand guard and press down (Illustration B). - Hold the saw firmly with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Hold the rear handle tightly between your legs, just above the knees (Illustration C). 14.2 Starting Procedure Pre-Starting Procedure Follow the pre-starting procedure if one of the following applies: - The engine has not been started and is cold. - The engine started, but shut off when it was accelerated the first time. - The engine shut off because the fuel tank ran dry. When can the engine be started without the pre-starting procedure? The engine can be started without preparation if it has been running for at least 1 minute and was only shut off for a short work break. ► Continue to "Starting the Engine," @ 14.4. 14.3 Pre-Starting Procedure WARNING Never operate your chain saw if it is damaged, improperly adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.4. 14 Starting the Engine

►
