Adaptec RAID Configuration Utility (ARC) Using the Disk Utilities The disk utilities allow you to low-level format or verify the media of the hard drives. To access the disk utilities: 1 Restart the computer, then press Ctrl+A when prompted to access the ARC utility. 2 If multiple controllers are installed, select the controller you want to configure, then press Enter. 3 From the ARC menu, select Disk Utilities. 4 Select the desired disk, then press Enter. You are offered the following options: - Format Disk-The functionality depends on the controller type, as described below: - SATA Controllers-Simulates a format of the hard drive by removing the file system and writing zeros to the entire disk. - SCSI Controllers-Performs a low-level format. Most drives are formatted at the factory and do not need to be formatted again. ! Caution: During formatting, all data is destroyed. Before proceeding, back up any data. - Verify Disk Media-Scans the media of a drive for defects. Any errors found are corrected. A-14

Using the Disk Utilities
The disk utilities allow you to low-level format or verify the media
of the hard drives. To access the disk utilities:
