Periodic maintenance Recommended drive chain oil: SAE 75W or 80W API GL-4 Gear oil ECS00530 ESU12130 Brake and parking brake EWS00440 WARNING G CAUTION: Make sure that no foreign material enters the drive chain housing. 4. Install the dipstick, making sure to align the notch in the dipstick handle with the projection on the drive chain housing. G A soft, spongy feeling in the brake lever indicates a failure in the brake system. Do not operate the snowmobile if you find any problems in the brake system. You could lose braking ability, which could lead to an accident. Ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect and repair the brake system. ECS00060 CAUTION: Make sure that the brake lever end does not project out over the handlebar end. This will help prevent brake lever damage when the snowmobile is placed on its side for service. 1. Notch 2. Projection To adjust the chain tension 1. Loosen the locknut. 2. Turn the chain tension adjusting bolt clockwise until it is finger tight, and then loosen it 1/4 turn. 3. Hold the chain tension adjusting bolt in place while tightening the locknut. Test the brake at a low speed when starting out to make sure that it is working properly. If the brake does not provide proper braking performance, inspect the brake for wear or brake fluid leakage. (See the following section for more details.)
