Hyperlinks Web sites contain hyperlinks (or links) to other Web sites, other Web pages, or areas within a Web page. Hyperlinks provide a way to move instantly from page to page and from idea to idea on the Web. Hyperlinks are really quite simple; in fact, a hyperlink is a lot like a door. Click a link, and the door opens to a new page. Tip Refer to the online tutorial for a refresher on how to point and click. Hyperlinks What is a Hyperlink? Imagine that you're reading a newspaper. As you read page 1 you may see, "For more details see page 3, column 2." Hyperlinks in a Web site work the same way. Use the mouse to click a hyperlink, and you move instantly from page to page and from Web site to Web site. Linking files together all around the world is what gives the Web its name. What Does a Hyperlink Look Like? Hyperlinks are a fast and easy way to move from topic to topic. But what does a hyperlink look like? Hyperlinks come in three varieties: ➜ Text ➜ Graphics ➜ Buttons If you see any or all of the following, it's probably a hyperlink: ➜ Underlined text that changes color when you move your cursor over it. ➜ A button with a label on it or under it. ➜ A faint dotted-line box surrounding an object or words when you move your cursor over it. ➜ The cursor changes from a pointer to a hand.
