MAINTENANCE Engine Intake Restrictor Plate Some RANGER 800 models are equipped with an intake restrictor plate in order to meet vehicle class regulations. This plate MUST NOT be removed for any reason. Removal of the intake restrictor plate will void the warranty on the vehicle. Engine Oil Always check and change the engine oil at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 43. Always change the oil filter whenever changing oil. WARNING! Vehicle operation with insufficient, deteriorated, or contaminated engine oil will cause accelerated wear and may result in engine seizure, accident, and injury. Always perform the maintenance procedures as outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart. Oil Recommendations POLARIS recommends the use of POLARIS PS-4 PLUS Performance Synthetic 2W-50 4cycle oil or a similar oil. See page 84 for the part numbers of POLARIS products. NOTICE: Mixing brands or using a non-recommended oil may cause serious engine damage. Always use the recommended oil. Never substitute or mix oil brands. Always check and change the oil at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 43. Always use the recommended engine oil. Oil Check The oil dipstick and fill tube is located on the engine. 1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. 2. Remove the seat and the underseat storage box. 3. Lift the lever lock to remove the dipstick. Wipe it dry with a clean cloth. 4. Reinstall the dipstick completely, but do not lock it. The dipstick must be screwed completely in to keep the angle and depth of the stick consistent. 5. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. Maintain the oil level in the safe range. Do not overfill. Tip: Due to the dipstick entry angle into the crankcase, the oil level will read higher on the bottom side of the dipstick. Always read the level on the upper surface of the dipstick. Dipstick Safe Safe Range 6. After reinstalling the dipstick, be sure to seat the lever lock. 7. MAINTENANCE
Engine Intake Restrictor Plate
Some
RANGER
800 models are equipped with an intake restrictor plate in order to meet
vehicle class regulations. This plate MUST NOT be removed for any reason.

Engine Oil
Always check and change the engine oil at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance
Chart beginning on page 43. Always change the oil filter whenever changing oil.

Oil Check

1.

2.
Remove the seat and the underseat storage box.
3.
Lift the lever lock to remove the dipstick. Wipe it dry

4.
Reinstall the dipstick completely, but do not lock it. The
dipstick must be screwed completely in to keep the angle
and depth of the stick consistent.
5.
Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. Maintain
the oil level in the safe range. Do not overfill.
Tip:
Due to the dipstick entry angle into the crankcase, the oil level
will read higher on the bottom side of the dipstick. Always read
the level on the upper surface of the dipstick.
6.
After reinstalling the dipstick, be sure to seat the lever
lock.
