Focus Point Selection The D300 offers a choice of 51 focus points that together cover a wide area of the frame. The focus point can be selected manually, allowing photographs to be composed with the main subject AF-area mode selector positioned almost anywhere in the N frame (single-point and dynamic- area AF), or automatically (auto-area AF; note that manual focus point detection is not available when auto-area AF is selected). To select the focus point manually: 1 Rotate the focus selector lock to ●. This allows the multi selector to be used to select the focus point. Focus selector lock 2 Select the focus point. Use the multi selector to select the focus point. At default settings, the center focus point can be selected by pressing the center of the multi selector. The focus selector lock can be rotated to the locked (L) position following selection to prevent the selected focus point from changing when the multi selector is pressed. 66
