1 Introduction Product description HP StoreOnce VSA is a software-only version of the HP StoreOnce Backup system. Packaged as a virtual appliance, it can be deployed and run on a vSphere 5.x hypervisor (ESXi) installed by the customer. Once deployed, the user has access to the StoreOnce VSA for both Web Management via the StoreOnce GUI and command line management via the StoreOnce CLI. HP StoreOnce VSA supports up to 10 TB of storage capacity. There are two methods of deployment, which are described in separate chapters in this document: • Using HP StoreOnce Enterprise Manager, SEM 1.0, Chapter 2 • Using vSphere Client, Chapter 3 The deployment through HP StoreOnce Enterprise Manager (SEM) configures 1 TB for user data storage and the SEM GUI may be used to increase capacity in multiples of 1 TB and to license the appliance, as described in Chapter 2. The deployment through vSphere Client does not configure any user data storage initially; you are recommended to follow the instructions to add user data storage before initially powering on the StoreOnce VSA, see Chapter 3 for more details. Once deployed, you are able to create the following StoreOnce backup target devices on the HP StoreOnce VSA: • StoreOnce Catalyst stores • iSCSI VT libraries • CIFS NAS shares The virtual appliance is fully compatible with HP StoreOnce hardware products for replication and Catalyst Copy functions and is fully integrated within HP StoreOnce Enterprise Manager, both for ease of management and for ease of deployment. StoreOnce VSA system requirements for both deployments methods are the same and are described in the next section. StoreOnce VSA system requirements The following prerequisites apply when deploying a StoreOnce VSA on the host (ESXi). Table 1 VSA system requirements Physical host Virtual CPU Virtual RAM Virtual Disk Running vSphere 5.x hypervisor, (ESXi) Minimum: 4 x vCPUs Minimum: 16 GB of vRAM nl As storage capacity is increased above 4 TB, it is recommended to increase resources to ensure optimal performance to 32 GB of vRAM. nl It is strongly recommended to reserve ALL memory allocated to the Storeonce VSA. 500 GB Thin Provisioned, for StoreOnce VSA system files, the datastore requires a minimum of 50 GB free space nl 1 TB Thick Provisioned Lazy Zeroed, for user data storage NOTE: The system supports up to ten 1 TB virtual disks Virtual NIC SCSI ports 2 x 1GbE virtual network interfaces Sufficient SCSI ports available on the controller to support the number of virtual disks that will be deployed (up to 10 may be required, if 10 virtual disks are created) Product description 5
