14 Starting the Engine - Position the chain saw on a level surface. Hold the saw firmly on the ground with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Put the toe of your right boot into the rear handle and press down (Illustration A). - Position the chain saw on a level surface. Hold the saw firmly on the ground with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Put the heel of your right boot onto the rear hand guard and press down (Illustration B). - Hold the saw firmly with your left hand on the front handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Hold the rear handle tightly between your legs, just above the knees (Illustration C). 14.2 Starting Procedure Pre-Starting Procedure Follow the pre-starting procedure if one of the following applies: - The engine has not been started and is cold. - The engine started, but shut off when it was accelerated the first time. - The engine shut off because the fuel tank ran dry. When can the engine be started without the pre-starting procedure? The engine can be started without preparation if it has been running for at least 1 minute and was only shut off for a short work break. ► Continue to Starting the Engine, @ 14.4. 14.3 Pre-Starting Procedure WARNING Never operate your chain saw if it is damaged, improperly adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.4. To reduce English the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and protective apparel, including proper eye protection, when operating your chain saw, @ 5.3. Guide it slowly back into the housing so that the starter rope can rewind properly. ► If the engine does not shut off: Set the Master Control Lever to position so that the engine does not flood. 14 Starting the Engine
Position the chain saw on a level surface. Hold the saw
firmly on the ground with your left hand on the front
handle. Your thumb should be under the handle. Put the
