M4300 Intelligent Edge Series Fully Managed Stackable Switches Message Log Format This topic applies to the format of all logged messages that are displayed for the message log, persistent log, or console log. Messages logged to a collector or relay through syslog use an identical format: • Aug 24 05:34:05 0.0.0.0-1 MSTP[2110]: mspt_api.c(318) 237%% Interface 12 transitioned to root state on message age timer expiry. This example indicates a message with severity 7 (15 mod 8) (debug) on a switch and generated by component MSTP running in thread ID 2110 on Aug 24 05:34:05 by line 318 of file mstp_api.c. This is the 237th message logged with system IP 0.0.0.0 and task-ID 1. • Aug 24 05:34:05 STK0 MSTP[2110]: mspt_api.c(318) 237%% Interface 12 transitioned to root state on message age timer expiry. This example indicates a user-level message (1) with severity 7 (debug) on a system that is not a switch and generated by component MSTP running in thread ID 2110 on Aug 24 05:34:05 by line 318 of file mstp_api.c. This is the 237th message logged. Messages logged to a collector or relay through syslog use a format identical to the previous message. • Total number of Messages: For the message log, only the latest 200 entries are displayed on the page. Enable or Disable the Command Log To enable or disable the command log: 1. Launch a web browser. 2. In the address field of your web browser, enter the IP address of the switch. The login window opens. 3. Enter admin as the user name, enter your local device password, and click the Login button. The first time that you log in, no password is required. However, you then must specify a local device password to use each subsequent time that you log in. The System Information page displays. 4. Select Monitoring > Logs > Command Log Configuration. 5. Use Admin Mode to enable/disable the operation of the CLI command logging by selecting the corresponding radio button. 6. Click the Apply button. Your settings are saved.
