SECTION 11-BATTERIES Cleaning Battery Terminals ƽ WARNING Most batteries are not sold with instructions. However, warnings are frequently noted on the cell caps. Read them carefully. DO NOT allow the liquid in the battery to come in contact with skin, clothes or other possessions. It is a form of acid and harmful or damaging burns may result. Should the liquid touch your skin, wash the area immediately and thoroughly with cool water. In serious cases or if eye contact is made, seek medical attention immediately. 1. Examine battery clamps and terminals for corrosion. 2. Verify the plastic caps are in place over battery cell holes. 3. Clean terminals and inside battery clamps by using a battery cleaning tool, wire brush, or medium grade sand paper. NOTE: Upon completion, areas should be shiny, not dull. 4. Carefully dust off all metal particles. When to Charge Batteries SPJ+ Joysticks NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 11.5. The Information Gauge Display located on the front of the joystick housing, it provides the state-of-battery charge, including notification of when the battery requires charging. It also provides the following information to the user on the status of the wheelchair: A. GREEN LEDs are lit, indicating well charged batteries. B. AMBER LEDs are lit, indicating batteries are moderately charged. Recharge batteries before taking a long trip. Batteries Empty Information Gauge Display Batteries Full C. When to Charge Batteries

NOTE: For this procedure, refer to
FIGURE 11.5.

the state-of-battery charge, including notification of when the battery requires charging.
It also provides the following information to the user on the status of the wheelchair:
A.
