Preparing for the Upgrade Gather the Required Hardware Components The following hardware components are required when upgrading the array. Before beginning the upgrade, make sure all necessary components are available. The parts involved in the upgrade will vary depending on the magnitude of the upgrade. Note Use the product number when ordering parts for the upgrade. Do not use replacement or exchange parts for performing the upgrade. Component VA 7410 controller (A6218A) or VA 7110 controller (A7293A) DS 2405 disk enclosure (A6250A) DS 2405 LCC (A6255A) Cache DIMMs (A6186A - 512 MB) (A6187A - 1024 MB) Quantity 2 When Required Required for every upgrade 1 - 6 Required when expanding the capacity of the array. 2 per DS 2400 Required when upgrading a VA 7400 with DS 2400 disk enclosure disk enclosures Variable Required when increasing the amount of controller cache. The VA 7410/7110 requires a minimum of 1024 MB of cache per controller. Replacing Fibre Channel Cables When Upgrading a VA 7100 The VA 7100 uses large form factor SC Fibre Channel cables. When upgrading to a VA 7110/7410, it will be necessary to replace these cables with small form factor LC cables. Refer to Table 21 in the HP StorageWorks Virtual Array User and Service Guide for a list of supported LC cables. Checking for VA 7410/7110 Updates Check the current VA 7410/7110 service notes for information on any product updates. This includes firmware releases and other updates.
