5 Replication functions Replication functions Select Replication from the StoreOnce menu item to display all aspects and tasks associated with replication. There are four tabs on the main Replication page and two further Navigator options for configuring VTL and NAS mappings. The default tab when you select this option from the Navigator is the Status tab. Users with an Admin login can create mappings and configure replication; operators can use this page to view replication settings. Replication settings • Status tab (page 43) • Partner Appliances tab (page 44) • Local Settings tab (page 50) • Event History tab (page 54) Replication mappings • VT Mappings (Replication) (page 55) • Recovering a source appliance, VTL devices • NAS Mappings (Replication) (page 66) • Recovering a source appliance (NAS shares) Replications actions are applied and monitored at appliance level. For a definition of an appliance see What is an appliance (page 40). NOTE: With the current version of the software there are no equivalent CLI commands available for the tasks described in this section. If you are new to replication we strongly recommend that you read the following documents, which are available from the HP web site. They provide a detailed discussion about replication deployment strategies and terminology and include examples using the Replication and Recovery wizards. • HP Best Practices for VTL, NAS, StoreOnce Catalyst and Replication implementations: This guide also describes best practices and includes examples using different backup applications. NOTE: A license is required for replication on the target appliance. What is an appliance? Replication can take place between multi-node, single-node, and single-node VSA StoreOnce Backup systems. The GUI for both refers to both Replication Targets and Sources as appliances. It is important to understand the different meaning of appliance within the multi-node, single-node, and single-node virtual environments. • In a single-node StoreOnce Backup system, the appliance is the physical device or server that contains the data to be replicated. All mapping is done using the physical IP addresses of the target and source StoreOnce Backup systems. • In a multi-node StoreOnce Backup system, the appliance is the service set that contains the data to be replicated. This means that each B6000 Backup system has at least two service sets that can be selected as appliances. (A fully expanded HP B6000 Backup system would 40 Replication functions
