Operating Your Radio Set-Up Routines GPS Menu All VHF Marine radios SHOULD / NEED to have a GPS receiver connected and operating to effectively use the DSC (Digital Selective Calling) features built-in to the radios. In an Emergency you want the rescue authorities and surrounding vessels to know where you are and to be able to quickly assist you in your time of need. This menu allows you to select the coordinate system which is basically the accuracy (the most accurate setting is selected by default), and allows you to test the GPS receiver, select the coordinate system which is basically the accuracy (the most accurate setting is already selected by default), Select the Satellite Based Augmentation System to be enabled or turned off (some areas on Earth need this turned off for greater accuracy)(defaulted On), and allows you to test the GPS receiver (will test either the internal or an external GPS receiver) to be sure that you are receiving good satellite information and check the GPS signal strength.
