NOTE: Aggressive turning can scuff or damage lawns. ALWAYS keep both wheels rotating when making sharp turns. DO NOT make turns with inside wheel completely stopped. To obtain minimum turning radius, slowly reverse inside wheel while moving the outside wheel slowly forward. CONTROL PANEL PTO Engagement Ignition Choke Switch Control PTO Throttle Hour Meter Figure 10 OL3245 Ignition Switch Operate the ignition switch with the removable key. The switch has three positions: Off (1), On (2) and Start (3). To start the engine, turn the key to Start, and then release to On. To stop the engine, turn the key to Off. NOTE: DO NOT operate starter more than 10 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start after 10 seconds allow the starter to rest 30 seconds before trying again. If engine will not start, see Troubleshooting on page 41 or refer to Engine Manual. Choke Control Pull the choke lever out to start a cold engine. Push the choke lever in once the engine starts and warms. 1 2 Throttle Lever The throttle lever changes the engine speed. Move the throttle lever forward to OE3250 Fast (1) to increase engine speed. Move the lever rearward to Slow (2) to decrease engine speed. Power Take Off (PTO) ON OFF Switch Power take off (PTO) switch engages and disengages the mower blades. PTO OE3255 Pull the power take off (PTO) switch to "On" position to engage mower blades. Push the power take off (PTO) switch to "Off" position to disengage mower blades. NOTE: The engine will not start unless the steering control levers are in the neutral position, the PTO switch is in the "Off" position and parking brake is set. Parking Brakes Place the steering control P PARK BRAKE U.S. PAT. NO. 6,434,917 B1 181003 levers in the neutral position and push them out into the slots to engage the parking brake OE3385 for each side. Move the steering control levers in towards the center to release the parking brakes. Deck Lift Lever Deck Lift Lever Figure 11 Deck lift lever raises and lowers mower deck for mowing or transport. Transport: Push deck lift lever all the way forward until lift lock engages. To release the lock, push the pedal forward, pull back on the transport lock handle, and slowly release the lift lever. DANGER: Before raising the deck to the transport position, insure the PTO is disengaged and the steering control levers are in the park position. GB - 17
