Periodic maintenance and adjustment Test the brake at a low speed when starting out to make sure that it is working properly. If the brake does not provide proper braking performance, inspect the brake for wear or brake fluid leakage. (See the following section for more details.) 2. Check the parking brake pads for wear by measuring the thickness of the pads. If the parking brake pads reach the wear limit, ask a Yamaha dealer to replace them. Checking the brake pads Check the brake pads for wear according to the following procedure. 1. Place the snowmobile on a level surface and apply the parking brake. 2. Remove the shroud and the right side cover. (See page 46 for removal procedures.) 3. Check the brake pads for wear. If the brake pads reach the wear limit, ask a Yamaha dealer to replace them. 1. (See page 46 for removal procedures.) 2. Loosen the parking brake pad adjusting bolt locknut and the parking brake pad adjusting bolt. 3. Loosen the parking brake cable locknut. 4. Test the brake at a low speed when starting

performance, inspect the brake for wear or
brake fluid leakage. (See the following section
for more details.)
Checking the brake pads
Check the brake pads for wear according to
the following procedure.
1.
Place the snowmobile on a level surface
and apply the parking brake.
2.
Remove the shroud and the right side
cover. (See page 46 for removal proce-
dures.)
3.
Check the brake pads for wear.
If the brake pads reach the wear limit, ask
a Yamaha dealer to replace them.
4.
Install the right side cover and the shroud.

Remove the shroud and the right side
cover. (See page 46 for removal proce-
dures.)
2.
Check the parking brake pads for wear by

3.
Install the right side cover and the shroud.
To adjust the parking brake
As the parking brake pads wear, adjustment

1.
Remove the shroud and the right side

2.
Loosen the parking brake pad adjusting
bolt locknut and the parking brake pad
adjusting bolt.
3.
Loosen the parking brake cable locknut.
4.
Turn the parking brake cable adjusting
bolt in or out to adjust the cable length.
