Storing a Flat or Spare Tire and Tools {CAUTION: Incorrect or improperly tightened wheel nuts can cause the wheel to come loose and even come off. This could lead to a crash. If you have to replace them, be sure to get new original equipment wheel nuts. Stop somewhere as soon as you can and have the nuts tightened with a torque wrench to the proper torque specification. See Capacities and Specifications on page 5-107 for wheel nut torque specification. 4. Use the wheel wrench to tighten the nuts firmly. Try to move the tire back and forth slightly to be sure it is secure. {CAUTION: Storing a jack, a tire, or other equipment in the passenger compartment of the vehicle could cause injury. In a sudden stop or collision, loose equipment could strike someone. Store all these in the proper place. To store the flat or spare tire on the spare tire mount: 1. Slide the flat or spare tire onto the swing-gate. In order to store the flat or the spare tire, you may need someone to assist you. 2. Reinstall the nuts to retain the flat or spare tire. 3. Tighten the nuts by hand. 5-89
